Adoption Process

Once the potential adopter has found a dog that they are interested in, they can begin the process of completing an adoption application. Please note: applying for a dog does not necessarily mean that you will be approved for that dog. We base adoption primarily on the compatibility of energy level & lifestyle. This is done to ensure that a good match is made and to reduce the risk that the dog will find itself without a guardian due to behaviours or activity levels.

Once a dog has been matched for compatibility with a potential adopter, contact with the potential adopters veterinarian is made by a volunteer (adoption/foster coordinator) a home visit and reference checks are completed at this time. If all references deemed positive then the adoptions process begins. At this time, a sleepover takes place so that the family may have an opportunity to see how the dog fits their lifestyle and if compatibility is suitable. If at this time the family wishes to adopt the dog, they will sign an agreement with Marley’s Hope and pay a one- time adoption fee of $400.00 that is not refundable. For Senior dogs (10 years and over) there is no adoption fee.

Puppies adoption fees are $400 and this includes first set of vaccinations and is non-refundable. Adopters will get $150 back when they show proof of spay/neuter at, and no later than 6months of age. Adopters are required (in addition to adoption fee) to pay for the 2nd and 3rd set of vaccinations, alteration and microchip at the vet of your choice. Adoptions are conditional on proof of spay/neuter at 6months of age. We also require obedience classes or puppy classes for all dogs adopted out under 6months of age. Proof of enrollment will be required prior to signing the contract. If you feel as though you cannot attend classes (e.g. due to geography), please discuss this with Marley’s Hope prior to applying by emailing¬†
